Joel Bressler, is a retired pharmacist and the author of “Nutrition — the Case of Misplaced Emphasis” . Over twenty years ago Mr. Bressler, when he was in active practice, became interested in nutrition as both adjunctive and alternative methods of treating various diseases. He has read countless articles written by medical and non-medical experts on the subject and began recommending nutritional substances to his clients, often achieving quite remarkable results over the years.
Mr. Bressler believes, judging from the title of the book, that our way of life emphasizes the wrong things in patient care and in the maintenance of good health. For examples, he feels that:
- Coffee, tea and soft drinks are more unhealthy than tobacco and alcohol.
- Fluorides and drugs, although widely used and prescribed, are extremely toxic to the body and may be leading causes of cancer and Alzheimer’s Disease.
- Vitamin formulas are often insufficient and incomplete and therefore unsatisfactory. Examples of proper formulas for various age groups are given.
- The health of the endocrine gland system, which includes the pituitary, thyroid, parathyroid, pancreas, adrenal and sex glands, determines the physical and mental well-being of the entire body.
- Chronic disease is currently not being handled well because nutritional care is essential but little understood or utilized by physician and patient alike.
- Patient nutritional care, as well as medical care, should be under the direction of well-trained physicians.
- Insurance companies should offer discounts of premiums to policyholders who do not use caffeine, as well as to those who do not use tobacco or alcohol.
- Hospitals, nursing homes and boarding homes should improve what they offer in terms of patient nutrition.
